Cosmetic Dentistry for a Smile Makeover
Restore Health, Beauty, and Function to Your Smile If you have significant dental problems, including missing teeth, chips, cracks, stains, and other damage, our Newport Beach dentists can help you improve the appearance and functionality of your smile with a full mouth rehabilitation. Dr. Aguilera is experienced at performing a number of cosmetic dentistry and restorative dental procedures to renew your smile and restore the health of your teeth and gums.
An attractive smile is not one single element, but a combination of color, shape, and overall appearance. Some of our patients want just a little improvement, which can oftentimes be achieved through a simple teeth whitening procedure. However, for our patients who want a more dramatic transformation, a smile makeover is often a better choice. We can combine several cosmetic procedures, which can include teeth whitening, for our Newport Beach and Corona Del Mar area smile makeover patients.
There are several techniques and methods to achieve the smile you desire. Whiteness can be addressed through teeth whitening with a simple one-hour procedure that can effectively lighten your teeth several shades and provide long-lasting results. However, whiter teeth can also be accomplished through the placement of porcelain veneers, which can simultaneously remedy chips and gaps by covering the visible part of the tooth with a translucent shell of porcelain. In some cases, a porcelain crown is more appropriate than a porcelain veneer for covering discoloration and cracks, and for correcting misalignment. Crowns are especially important when the tooth structure is compromised, such as after root canal therapy.

Teeth Whitening
Over time, many things we consume can contribute to yellow, brown, or gray stains on the teeth. Wine, coffee, tobacco use, and the natural aging process are just a few causes of discolored teeth. We can help brighten your smile by several shades in as little as one hour. We offer the Opalescent take-home system. Cosmetic bleaching can be one of the most cost effective, quickest ways to dramatically improve and brighten your smile. Depending on your cosmetic needs and lifestyle, Dr. Aguilera can determine which treatment plan is best for you to get rid of the stains and discoloration on your teeth for a whiter, brighter, healthier-looking smile.
Porcelain Veneers
If you are unhappy with your smile due to cracks or chips in your teeth, gaps, discoloration, or poor alignment, porcelain veneers can be a great way to improve your smile’s appearance. They offer a natural-looking solution to help brighten and reshape your smile. We offer a variety of options at our practice, including composite veneers. Your specific aesthetic wishes, as well as the color, position, and bite of your teeth will help us to create an individualized treatment plan. Your veneers will be custom-made to best fit your needs.
Smile Makeovers
A dazzling, radiant smile can help you feel more confident and make a lasting first impression in your daily interactions. If you are struggling with several dental imperfections such as stains, chips, gaps, crooked teeth, or missing teeth, there is no reason for you to feel embarrassed by your smile.
If you haven’t taken care of your dental issues because you think you will have to endure unattractive metal braces, painful procedures, and a long, uncomfortable process, you may be in luck. We can help you create the smile you’ve always dreamed about safely and relatively quickly through a smile makeover. Our dentists can combine a variety of cosmetic and restorative dental treatments, including teeth whitening, tooth-colored fillings, porcelain veneers, and dental implants for a complete smile makeover. Let us help you create the smile you’ve always desired.

Gum Reshaping
Are you feeling self-conscious or embarrassed by excessive gum tissue along your teeth, also known as a “gummy smile?” We can correct this with a gum reshaping procedure designed to make the gum-to-tooth ratio more proportional and create a more balanced smile. Gum reshaping is a minimally-invasive procedure that uses a soft tissue laser to gently recontour the gums.
A local anesthetic may be administered to minimize any pain and discomfort during treatment, although most patients say they do not experience any discomfort. The laser is targeted directly at the gums to reshape them and remove any excess tissue, without harming the teeth or other surrounding mouth tissue. Some swelling and bleeding may occur following the procedure, but this generally subsides quickly. Gum reshaping typically takes no more than one hour. Results are usually immediate, and most patients are able to return home immediately following the treatment, with little to no downtime. Let us help you feel confident and beautiful smiling again!
Tooth Colored Fillings
Traditionally, silver amalgam fillings were the standard for repairing and filling cavities. However, amalgam fillings contain mercury, a substance that has been found to be harmful to the environment and to have health risks. The federal government has strict hazardous waste disposal regulations for amalgam fillings, so there is no need to put the substance into our own bodies. Even a small amount of mercury may be dangerous. Dr. Aguilera is committed to providing the healthiest and safest method of treatment, so we only use tooth-colored porcelain fillings for our patients.
In addition to being safer, tooth-colored fillings also offer a natural-looking cosmetic benefit. Also, amalgam fillings can break down over time, permitting bacteria to return underneath the filling and result in recurring cavities. Porcelain fillings are usually more durable than amalgam and more resistant to future cracking and cavities. By avoiding amalgam fillings and choosing porcelain fillings instead, we can help protect your health and the environment in addition to restoring your natural-looking, healthy smile.
Cosmetic Bonding
Cosmetic dental bonding is one of the fastest, easiest ways to improve small dental imperfections, such as cracks, gaps, chips, malalignment, and discoloration. While porcelain veneers may be necessary for major issues, cosmetic bonding can be a great solution for minor dental problems. This procedure can create a strong, balanced, and beautiful smile.
First, Dr. Aguilera will apply a special cleaning agent on your affected teeth to create an adequate surface for the bonding material to adhere to. Next, your dentist will apply a Dental Resin that matches your natural teeth. A laser or LED light will harden the material, and your dentist will polish and shape your teeth for a beautiful, natural-looking, renewed smile. The process is virtually painless, quick, and can usually be completed in one office visit with immediate results. Cosmetic bonding can minimize minor dental imperfections for a rejuvenated, functional, and radiant smile.
What is a Full Mouth Rehabilitation?
If you suffer from a variety of significant and complex restorative and cosmetic dental issues, Dr. Aguilera may recommend full mouth rehabilitation. Full mouth rehabilitation is a comprehensive restoration process whereby the purpose and appearance of every tooth in your mouth is restored. It improves the dental, skeletal and muscular functions of your mouth while also addressing the teeth with porcelain veneers, crowns, bridges or implants. By performing this procedure, Dr. Aguilera can replace missing teeth, establish a correct bite, protect teeth from improper wear, prevent TMJ and enhance your smile. The full number of potential benefits made possible by full mouth rehabilitation is so expansive we simply cannot list them all here. Your mouth plays so many important roles: chewing, drinking, speaking and breathing. After spending more than 40 years resolving the oral needs of his patients, Dr. Aguilera is eminently qualified to provide you with such comprehensive oral care. You deserve the very best care, so we warmly invite you to visit the office of Dr. John Aguilera in Corona Del Mar for a complimentary consultation.

What Can I Expect?
You will meet with Dr. Aguilera for a comprehensive dental exam to determine a unique, custom treatment plan to best fit your needs. We will assess both your underlying health issues and your cosmetic goals to determine which procedures can create the smile you desire, while also maintaining optimum oral health and functionality. Next, we can execute treatment as fast or as slow as you would like, depending on your needs and lifestyle. We can usually perform several procedures in the same appointment for quicker results. However, we can also schedule a series of appointments for each step of restoration. Our goal is to provide the best, longest-lasting results possible in a schedule that works for you. Results and recovery will vary based on the amount of treatment required and the schedule of treatment.
