01Benefits
A dental implant is the only tooth replacement that rebuilds the root as well as the tooth. That is why it looks natural, lasts, and protects the rest of your smile.
A custom porcelain crown is shaped and shaded to blend in, so no one can tell which tooth was replaced.
Unlike a bridge, an implant stands on its own. The healthy teeth beside the gap are never drilled down.
The implant replaces the tooth root, keeping the bone beneath the gap active so it does not shrink away.
Fixed into bone, an implant handles the same foods as a natural tooth. No diet restrictions, no worrying.
No partial to take out and soak at night. You brush and floss it just like the rest of your teeth.
With good home care and regular maintenance, an implant is designed to be a permanent solution.

02The treatment
A single tooth dental implant replaces one missing tooth from the root up. A small titanium post is placed into the jaw where the tooth root used to be. Over a few months the bone grows around it and fuses to it, creating a foundation as stable as a natural root.
An abutment then connects the implant to a custom porcelain crown, designed to match the teeth around it in shape, size, and shade. The result is a freestanding tooth that does not rely on, or damage, its neighbors.
Implants work well for a tooth lost to decay, cracks, gum disease, or injury, and for teeth that need to be removed. When a tooth is extracted here, the site can often be preserved for an implant at the same visit.
Porcelain crown. The visible tooth, custom-made to match your smile.
Abutment. The connector that secures the crown to the implant.
Implant post. A titanium root that fuses with the jawbone for lasting stability.

03Your implant doctor
Dr. Polonus is an implantologist, and he handles every step of your implant himself — the 3D planning, any extraction or grafting, the surgical placement, and the final crown. You are not referred to a surgeon across town and then handed back to a different team.
He trained at the USC School of Dentistry — where he also completed his undergraduate and master’s degrees — and finished his residency at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He plans every implant around where the final tooth needs to sit in your bite, which is what separates an implant that lasts decades from one that merely looks acceptable.
04Treatment process
Five clear steps, with the same doctor and team from your first visit to your final crown.
Dr. Polonus examines the gap or failing tooth, reviews your health history, and explains every option — including when an implant is not the right answer.
Cone beam 3D imaging shows bone volume, nerve position, and sinus anatomy, so the implant’s position and angle are planned digitally first.
A short, guided appointment under local anesthesia, typically about an hour, with sedation available if you want it.
Over three to six months the implant fuses with the bone, with a temporary in place for any visible space. Then your custom crown is fitted.
Brush, floss, and keep up with regular cleanings and check-ups, and your implant is built to last for decades.
Your first step is a consultation.
05Patient results
Implant patients come to us from across Corona del Mar, Newport Beach, and the Orange County coast. Here is what they say.
“Eva at the front desk, the assistants, Dr. Polonus — everyone made what's usually my least favorite hour into something almost pleasant. They use the latest technology and actually answer your questions.”
“Incredibly professional and knowledgeable, in a space that is genuinely clean and modern — it doesn’t feel like a dental office.”
“Friendly staff, spotless office, great work — and when I had an emergency on a Tuesday afternoon, they got me in within the hour.”
“I've been a patient since 2011, through the transition to Dr. Polonus. Eva and Valerie still remember my kids' names. Service par excellence.”
06Cost & financing
The cost of a single implant depends on whether the tooth needs to be removed first, whether bone grafting is needed, and the type of crown that goes on top. Rather than quoting a number that may not fit your case, we give you an itemized written estimate after your consultation and 3D scan — before you commit to anything.
Because an implant is designed to last decades and protects your neighboring teeth, it is often the most cost-effective replacement over a lifetime, even compared with a less expensive bridge.
The cost depends on whether an extraction or bone graft is needed and the type of crown placed on the implant. After your consultation and 3D scan, we give you an itemized written estimate and confirm what your insurance will contribute before you commit to treatment.
Yes. We offer financing options that let you spread the cost into monthly payments, and HSA or FSA funds can usually be applied. Ask at your consultation or call (949) 675-3131.
Many dental insurance plans contribute toward part of an implant, the crown, or related procedures such as extractions. We check your benefits and let you know what your plan is expected to pay before treatment begins.
Most healthy adults missing a tooth, or with a tooth that needs to be removed, are candidates. Good candidates have healthy gums and enough bone to support the implant, or can have bone rebuilt with grafting. Conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes or heavy smoking can affect healing, and we will discuss them at your consultation.
That is often a grafting question, not a dead end. Ridge augmentation, socket preservation, and sinus lifts are routine parts of Dr. Polonus’s surgical practice, and they frequently make an implant possible after another office said no.
Implant placement is done under local anesthesia, and most patients are surprised by how uneventful it is. Oral and IV sedation are available. Afterward, expect a few days of mild soreness that usually responds well to over-the-counter pain relief.
Most patients return to work the next day. Mild swelling and tenderness usually settle within a few days. The implant then takes three to six months to fully fuse with the bone before the final crown is placed.
The implant itself is designed to be permanent. With good hygiene and regular maintenance, long-term success rates are very high. The crown is the wearing part and may need to be replaced after 10 to 15 years.
Usually. A bridge requires cutting down the two healthy teeth beside the gap and does nothing to preserve the bone beneath it. An implant stands alone and maintains the jawbone. There are still cases where a bridge is the right choice, and we will tell you if yours is one of them.
